Without commitment you will never start, without consistency you will never finish! – Denzel Washington
Looks like Mr. Washington had this quote specifically shot at people trying to make new year resolutions happen. We have all tried many a time and failed miserably with resolutions, but what was the reason? why could we not reach the goal? How soon did we fail?
Well, it’s time to put excuses in the past and take command of the present and the future. Here are some tips on how you can build a practical resolution and stick to it with better commitment. Read on –

The most important step into any plan is the plan itself. Without an organised timeline of your goals you will not have a vision to go any further. So, create a calendar or a timeline of what your goals are and how you are planning to achieve your targets eventually. Suppose you plan on losing a few pounds, then make a calendar on how many pounds you wish to lose in a week and how you will exercise and what diet you will maintain to hit the numbers right.

Someone once said, old habits die hard. That’s true to every word, if you are trying to quit smoking, drinking excessive, binge eating or any such bad habit, it takes a lot of will power to do it. It’s best to find a friend or partner who wants to kill similar habits, by doing so you both will stand as a pillar of support and motivation to each other and goals can be easily achieved without much distraction

It is in your hardest time that you wish you always had a support that will constantly keep you motivated and help you sail towards your resolutions without you deviating from your goals. Be it forming a new habit or just killing an old one, it’s always best to have someone who cares for you and would help you get there. Speak to family members, friends or your loved ones and seek their help and support towards achieving your milestones.

If it’s 2 sets of push-ups, 5 miles on the treadmill, and 3 sets of squats then be it, don’t push harder than what your body can take at the initial stages. Slow and steady wins the race and yes, believe in it! If you beat yourself up to do more and then end up sore and never turn up to the training then its game over, instead take it easy and slow, that will help you build consistency over a period of time.

Who doesn’t like a token of appreciation for all the hard work? Your body deserves it too. If you are working out consistently and committed to it, then it is ok to have one cheat day in your calendar to do something else apart from working out or chasing your goals. Remember, balance is the key to successful results and it is not achieved in just one day. Stay focused and stay committed.
